Michigan Shakespeare Festival ReturnsThe Michigan Shakespeare Festival returns to Canton for a special engagement from August 3- 19 featuring: "The Tempest" and "Measure for Measure," as well as Aphra Behn's "The Rover". Tickets for these events and more can be purchased at the door, online, by phone 734/394-5300, or in person Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Village Theater, which is located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton.

Village Theater Ushers WantedThe Village Theater at Cherry Hill is seeking new volunteer ushers for the 2018-19 theater season! If you have ever wanted to work at a Performing Arts Center, or have a passion for the Arts, now is your chance to get involved in your community.
Mandatory training for new ushers: - Saturday, August 18 at 9:00 a.m.
Training for returning ushers - Tuesday, August 14 at 6:00 p.m.
All volunteers must be 18 years or age or older and will undergo a background check.

THE GALLERY@VT:August 2018 Gallery @VT featuring "People See; People Do" by Artist Kay Masini
Exhibition Dates: August 1-29, 2018
Artist Bio: Kay Masini uses Representational Abstraction, which is a contemporary style that combines realism and abstraction in her recent series of acrylic paintings. Also included in the exhibition are several of her favorite works in other media and styles that have a similar subject.
Masini is a lifelong painter, active on art boards and in national and international organizations. Among her solo exhibitions was one in Antwerp, Belgium where she holds membership in the Internationale Vriendenkring. Her work is included in many private collections; she has also shown in solo and group shows in Minnesota, as well as Michigan, winning numerous awards. A signature member of the International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA), she is also a current member of the Three Cities Art Club and the Plymouth Community Arts Center. Two of Masini's paintings were also selected for the first acrylic painting book by Nancy Reyner for North Light books, labeled “THE BEST OF ACRYLIC PAINTING” Masini holds a bachelor’s degree in art and philosophy from the Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois and has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, with a brief study at Oxford in England and with prominent artists in workshops in the United States. She is a believer in continued learning - not only of art techniques but also of comparative thought.
Masini was a partner in a marketing communication firm in St. Joseph, Michigan dealing with major U.S. corporate clients, plus financial, health and educational clients. She has also designed book covers and authored a Christmas book of art and poetry. Masini currently lives in Plymouth, MI with her husband and spends her summers painting in her studio on Beaver Island, MI where she was born.

This popular voice competition, which is open to Middle and High School students throughout southeastern lower Michigan, returns for another season. The top three three finalists in each division will take home cash prizes. The benefits of Canton Idol extend far beyond singing. Contestants work together preparing group numbers, building teamwork, friendships and most importantly confidence. A panel of judges along with the audience advance the performers and ultimately select the winners. Tickets: $10-$12
