His youngest, the vivacious Bianca, is as desired as his eldest, the headstrong Katherine, is feared. So the Paduan patriarch hatches a brilliant plan: no one will marry Bianca until Katherine herself has been to the altar. Enter Petruchio of Verona. His father’s death has forced him to seek a wealthy wife. By chance his friend Hortensio is one of Bianca’s suitors, and Petruchio agrees to help his friend – and himself – by wooing Katherine for her generous dowry. The Seagull - Anton Chekhov's Satiric ComedyMichigan Shakespeare Festival
August 5, 2:00 p.m. (Q&A follows performance) August 12, 7:30 p.m. (Q&A follows performance) August 13, 3:00 p.m. (Q&A follows performance) Beloved actress Arkadina has it all: beauty, fame, and a wonderful relationship with a famous author, Trigorin. She also has a son in his 20s who dreams of being a playwright, and whose very existence reminds the world that Arkadina is guilty of the one thing actresses must never do: grow older. Anton Chekhov’s satiric comedy The Seagull skewers our views of art and entertainment, and where the two of them combine. A darkly funny domestic comedy set at the turn of the last century, MSF’s 2017 production of The Seagull is from a new original translation. Directed by MSF Artistic Director Janice L Blixt, it features MSF Artistic Associate Janet Haley as Arkadina and MSF favorite Shawn Pfautsch as Trigorin. Rated PG13 due to language or adult subject matter.

The Gallery at The Village TheaterCurrent Gallery Exhibit
This month the Gallery @ VT presents “Expressions, A Portrait Collection by Mary's Artists”. Artists featured: Kathleen Boettcher, Candace Brancik, Carole Cooper, Barbara Eko Murphy, Daria Fileta, Sara Hadley, Janet Kondziela, Kathleen McNamee, Kathleen Montgomery, Lynn Newman, Kathleen W. O’Connell, Jane O’Dell, Susan Perrish, Karen Schlanderer, and Mary Step. Exhibition Dates: August 1-30, 2017 Artist Reception: August 8, 7:00-9:30 p.m. (free and open to the public)
About the Exhibit: Mary’s Artists represents more than 20 artists who attend weekly life studio sessions at Step Studios. Mary Step’s Studio was founded 10 years ago when Barbara Eko Murphy and Mary Step met at the BBAC and formed a life drawing group. Mary provides the studio, hires models and collects costumes and props. Barbara leads, coordinates and encourages the artists to show their art in solo and juried art shows. Mary’s Artists work each week from a live costumed model and in a variety of media to include: oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, charcoals, and inks. Each artist’s interpretation is uniquely his/her own and many are award winners. A few artists have degrees in Fine Art, others have taken classes at Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Visual Arts Association of Livonia, and a variety of workshops with national artists. All artists are committed to the art community found at Mary Step’s Studio and to the value of painting from life. Mary’s Artists find that their mix of gender, age, religion, heritage, education, and other differences blend well to form a wonderful art community and studio experience. Art is the common passion but a splash of humor and friendship add to the experience. Each week at the studio you will find creative art souls gathering to drink coffee, discuss news and make art. Life Drawing and Painting are invaluable to the artists as they collaborate with models to create masterpieces. Mary’s Artists hope that the viewer feels inspired when attending our collective portrait show.

ATTENTION ARTISTS!25th Annual Canton Fine Arts Exhibition The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is accepting entries for the 25th Annual Canton Fine Arts Juried Exhibition, which will be on display October 6 - November 6, 2017. Interested artists may also request an entry form hard copy by calling The Village Theater at Cherry Hill at 734/394-5300 ext. 8. This year’s Juror is Jean-Paul Aboudib. Jean-Paul is a Michigan based artist working and residing in the metro Detroit area. He has earned a BFA degree from The College for Creative Studies and an MFA in Painting from Wayne State University in Detroit. His current paintings embody a saturated color palette and a painterly approach culled from a variation of expressive realism His work employs not only the technical traditions of classical anatomy and the convincing representation of the figure, but also the multiple psychological complexities, yet subtle nature of his subjects.
Jean-Paul has exhibited his work in various galleries and exhibition spaces, including the Alden B. Dow Museum, The Forum Gallery at The Cranbrook Academy of Arts, the historic Scarab Club, The Artist Market, The Ann Arbor Art Center, The Pontiac Creative Art Center, The Cherry Hill Village Theater, Madonna University, The Plymouth Community Arts Council, The Tangent Gallery, The Guardian Building of Detroit and The Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. In addition, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including Honorable Mentions, Merit Awards and Best in Shows in juried art competitions. In 2011, he was the recipient of the Best in Show award in Canton’s Fine Arts Exhibition at The Village Theater and also was awarded Best in Show in the Alfred Berkowitz state wide competition in 2013.
