Canton ADA Transition Plan Public Meeting

Canton Township will hold a special public meeting to collect community input for its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan on Thursday, August 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Canton Administration Building – Board Room, located at 1150 S. Canton Center, Canton, Michigan, 48188.  All individuals who currently reside in Canton Township, or who utilize a Canton facility or service, are encouraged to attend.  Participants planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP by calling 734/394-5360.  CART (Communication Access Real-time Translation) services will also be provided during this public meeting that include real-time captioning and transcription.  For additional information, visit www.canton-mi.org

3rd Annual Family Field Day

3rd Annual Family Field Day & Movie Featuring "The Lego Batman Movie"

Area families are invited to come on out for a little friendly competition at the North end of Heritage Park on Friday, August 11, at 7 p.m.  All ages can participate in our Family Field Day featured events, such as old favorites like potato sack races, shoe kicks, and distance throw. No pre-registration required. The $11 per family fee  for Canton residents and $13 per family per family fee for non-residents must be paid on-site; cash only. Following the Family Field Day, participants can take in DC Entertainment's "The LEGO® Batman Movie” (Rated PG) in the park on the big screen. Food, snacks, and popcorn will also be available for purchase on site. Annual Cardboard Boat Race

Summit Cardboard Boat Races

There's still time to cast off and race toward victory in the 4th Annual Summit on the Park Championship Cardboard Boat Race, which will be held this Saturday, August 6, starting at 9:30 a.m.  Build your custom vessel no bigger than 5 1/2 feet wide by 10 feet long using only cardboard, duct tape and paint.  Then, line up your crew and enter to win!   Register online or at the Summit front desk.  Cardboard boats must be built at home and then transported to the Summit to compete.  Paddles will be provided for participants and boats can be raced by a youth crew comprised of one or two individuals.  Each boat will be timed individually. Awards will be given out for: Most Creative and Fastest Boat, as well as the Titanic Award. Cardboard Boat Race event fees are:  $10 for Summit Members; $15 for Canton Residents; and $20 for Non-Residents.  For additional information call 734/394-5460.

Last Call for Entries for the Canton Fine Arts Exhibition

Area artists are encouraged to enter the 25th Annual Canton Fine Arts Exhibition  by August 21, 2017 for consideration to be locally exhibited from October 6 - November 4, 2017, at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill.  Artists are invited to enter their sculptures, fine arts, photography, ceramics, wall-hangings and mixed media by the deadline. Participation is open to all artists 18 years and older, living or working in Michigan. Entry forms are now available online or artists may request an application form by calling The Village Theater at Cherry Hill at 734/394-5300.

Be sure to stop by the Canton Farmers Market and show your support for our local farmers and vendors!  Located at 500 N. Ridge Rd., the Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 am – 1 pm rain or shine, until October 15.

This family-friendly market offers a wide variety of produce, foods, handmade items, and more.  Stop by this Sunday and discover something new!  This month, watch for musical entertainment by Dan Mazur on Aug. 6th; Scott Martin on Aug. 13; Meg Nye Aug. 20th and Ryan Brake on Aug. 27th.  The Market also offers weekly cooking demos, kids’ crafts, as well as Master Gardener seasonal topics. The B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center Gears Up for Fall

Canton’s popular After School Program offers a supervised, fun environment for teens ages 11-17, that includes: daily programming, tutoring, outreach, and recreation opportunities. Transportation services are also available.  This unique teen center encourages teens to gain hands-on experience with activities such as Teen TV, cooking, music, art, youth and teen council, and much more. The most impressive part of the program is witnessing the growth and confidence in each of its participants. For a tour and more information about what The B.L.O.C.K. Second Annual Canton Senior Games

A wide variety of events has been scheduled for Seniors interested in competing in the Second Annual Canton Senior Games, which are scheduled to take place August 22-25.  Canton Club 55+ will offer a variety events in which seniors may compete in for a nominal fee for a chance to win in their age category.   

Events include:

Sports Tournaments (Golf, Pickleball, Tennis, Billiards)
Cards/Wii Games (Euchre, Pinochle, Will Bowling, Mahjong, Hand & Foot, Trivia)
Field Games (Bean Bag Toss, Bocce Ball, Ring Toss, Softball Throw, Basketball Shot, Football Toss)

Back to School Bash

Come celebrate Back to School Days at the Heritage Park Amphitheater, on Saturday, August 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This special event, presented by the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools and Canton Leisure Services, will offer the Quest For Excellence team challenges starting at 9 a.m.  Register online today!  Then join us for the P-CCS Party in the Park, which will include a picnic atmosphere, featuring opportunities to learn about P-CCS events and offerings! In addition, local schools and community groups, clubs, and area resource centers will be onsite providing valuable information to position your children for success in the coming school year. Participants can also enjoy giveaways, food, and games. Plenty of fun kids’ activities will also be available.  Participants are encouraged to also donate school supplies to the Salvation Army School Supplies Collection.  8th Annual Brew, Brats & Bands at the Barn

This popular fall event returns to Preservation Park on Saturday, September 9 from 6-9 p.m. Ages 21 and over are encouraged to attend this special fundraiser that will benefit the Canton Historical Society.  This unique beer tasting event, scheduled to take place at the Cady-Boyer Barn located at 500 N. Ridge Road, will include 7 beer tasting tickets to select from a wide variety of specialty craft beers, all-you-can-eat brats, and entertainment provided by "Standing Room Only" and “All Directions.”  Tickets are $25 in advance through September 8 and $30 at the door.  Sponsors of this popular event include: Canton Leisure Services, Holiday Market, Liberty Street Brewing Company, Canton Brew Works, alphgraphics, Edward Jones Investments, Kennedy Nemier Insurance Agency, Inc., and Beefests.com.
