Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, Jonathan Larson's Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The physical and emotional complications of the disease pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom and Angel. Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble. Benny has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends. Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.
PG-13 (This Tony Award/ Pulitzer Prize winning show is rated for mature thematic material involving drug use and sexuality)

Steel Magnolias by Robert HardingBetter Than Ever Productions Date & Times11/11/21 @ 7 PM 11/12/21 @ 7 PM 11/13/21 @ 7 PM 11/14/21 @ 2 PM The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” The very first performance of this play met with immediate critical and popular acceptance in its premier production by New York’s WPA Theatre. Concerned with a group of gossipy southern ladies in a small-town beauty parlor, the play is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters. Rated PGFor information on this show or other Better Than Ever Productions, please call 734/306-7883 or email betterthaneverproductions@gmail.com.

THE GALLERY@VT:October 2021 the Gallery @VT presents:
“Insight, Eyesight and Foresight” Featured Artist: Josh Berliner Exhibition Dates: Now – October 31, 2021
Gallery Hours: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 10 AM - 12 PM & Wednesday 6 PM - 8 PM Artist’s Statement The question of “what is and is not art?” has been a hotly debated one for the past hundred years. Conflicting groups have been on their back feet trying to argue their points when confronted with modern art. To me though, it has become very clear. I believe that for any piece, there are three parts: the object, the audience, and the interaction between them. It is in the phenomenon of that third part where the art lies.
With my paintings, I use surrealistic and symbolic imagery to address the political and personal issues which press on us these days. By showing the audience an artwork, which can be easily recognized, but also requires deep reflection to truly understand, I aim to promote truth and conscientious living. I feel that I have a responsibility to use what faculties I possess to speak up for what I believe in and hopefully, make a positive impact on the future. Artist’s Bio Josh Berliner was born on August 11, 1993, and grew up in the township of Canton, Michigan. Growing up, he always had a love for drawing and painting, taking art classes and working on oil paintings as early as junior high school. He started his undergraduate at Central Michigan University in 2011, initially going for a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, but transitioned to Fine Art. Participation in the student art shows and Local art exhibitions in Mt. Pleasant were his first public art shows. In 2015, he graduated with his Bachelor of Applied Arts degree.
Josh has participated in several art shows around Michigan (in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Romeo to name a few) and the United States (including at the Audubon society in Pennsylvania, as well as Ohio and Indiana). This is his first solo art show.
