So much is happening in Canton this summer! Check out some of the exciting events coming up this month as we celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month!

Preservation Park Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Area residents are invited to attend Canton Township’s special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Preservation Park’s newest open-air pavilion. Join Canton Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak, along with Canton’s additional elected officials and members of the Board of Trustees for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. in Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge Road in Canton, MI. Closely following this special ceremony, “Bites for the Barn,” Canton’s newest al fresco dining experience will be held from 6-8 p.m., which requires a ticket for admission.  For more information about the new Preservation Park Pavilion and other Canton Park amenities, visit www.cantonfun.org or call 734/394-5360.

We Want To Hear From You

Canton residents are invited to provide input at a series of Open Houses that will be held in June and August as a key part of the strategic process of updating Canton Leisure Services Five-Year Master Plan. Members of the community are invited to submit feedback on:  

  • Thursday, August 5, from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Thursday Night LIVE Concert in Heritage Park, located behind 1150 S. Canton Center Road
  • Sunday, August 8, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Canton Farmers Market.

Stop by any time during these events. The revised Master Plan will ultimately serve as a guide in planning for acquisition, development, and improvements to Canton parks, and trails, as well as Leisure Services facilities, programs, and services over the next five years. Members of the community are invited to submit comments at the Master Plan Open House or online at www.cantonfun.org. National Night Out Event

On Thursday, August 5, 2021, area residents are invited to Heritage Park for a “Night Out” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with their community partners:  the Canton Police Department, the Canton Public Library, Canton Coalition for Inclusive Communities (CCIC) and Canton Leisure Services. These Canton community organizations proudly present this year’s National Night Out, featuring “A Walk Around the Globe with Canton Coalition for Inclusive Communities (CCIC).” This annual community-building campaign continues to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. This year’s event will showcase Canton’s diversity by highlighting various cultures and places of worship within our community. All ages are encouraged to join us for this evening filled with live music, an interactive Canton Public Safety vehicle display, refreshments available for purchase, and games provided by this year’s event sponsors. Thursday Night LIVE Concert Series

Nothing says summer more than free outdoor concerts at the Heritage Park Amphitheater! This year’s Thursday Night Live Concert Series, sponsored by Canton Community Financial, return to Heritage Park, located behind 1150 S. Canton Center Road, and will include: a variety of weekly food trucks; a Beer and Wine Garden sponsored by Maraschino's Pub, with 100% of sales going to Second Chance At Life – a local non-profit group that helps Michigan families with medical transplant costs; and more!.  These outdoor events run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings through August 12 with performances live onstage from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The rest of the summer schedule includes: August 5 - Wag the Dog (Rock, Pop, Motown and Today’s Hits); August 12 - Downriver Dan (Rock and Blues); and August 19 - Circle of Sound Band (Best hits from today and yesterday).  All concerts are weather dependent. Tuesdays Are Terrific Concert Series

This summer, come Rock Out at these FREE concerts, sponsored by Community Financial Credit Union. Meet your friends and neighbors for an afternoon of music, food and fun at the Heritage Park Amphitheater from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays now through - August 10. All ages welcome to attend.  Enjoy these special performances: August 3 - Fairy Godmother of Music and August 10 - Guy Louis Family Musical Performance.  Additional support provided by these generous partners: Canton Public Library, Busch’s Fresh Food Market, and Kona Ice. Be sure to stop by the Canton Farmers Market and show your support for our local farmers and vendors!  Located at 500 N. Ridge Road, the Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. rain or shine, until October 17.  Please note: The Farmers Market will NOT be open on Sunday, September 5. This family-friendly market offers a wide variety of produce, foods, handmade items, and more.  Stop by this popular Canton destination and discover something new!

Celebrate Cherry Hill Village!

Years from now, you will be able to tell your kids you were at the first ever Cherry Hill Village Festival. Stop in anytime from 11a.m. – 5 p.m. on August 21st and 22nd at the crossroads of Ridge and Cherry Hill for two days of food, music, art and fun! The festival will encompass the historic School House, fountain and the Village Arts Factory campus. Food, music, handcrafted artisan creations and local businesses will all come together for this unique celebration of our Cherry Hill Village community. Annual Movie in the Park

Area families are invited to watch a movie under the starts at the Heritage Park Amphitheater on Friday, August 28, starting at 6 p.m. during this fun family event that celebrates the end of summer! All ages can enjoy the animated feature “Onward” (Rated PG) in the park on the big screen. Food, snacks, and popcorn will also be available for purchase on site. Just come for the FREE movie at Dusk.  Pre-registration is required for this FREE event.  Participants are reminded to bring their chairs, blankets, and bug spray – no pets please.  For more information, call 734/394-5460.

Conquer The Park – Sprint Triathlon Returns

You've watched the Olympics on your televisions!  Now, here's your chance to show yourself what you've got in the spirit of competition.  On Saturday, August 28, channel your inner triathlete in the Summit on the Park’s Third Conquer the Park Sprint Triathlon!  Swim 200-meters  in the Summit pool, bike 2-miles around the Heritage Park pond, and finish by running 1-mile through the park. All participants will receive a T-Shirt and medal.  Heat times begin at 8 a.m. Please note that bikes will not be provided.  Fees are just $40 for Summit members, $45 for Canton Residents, and $50 for non-residents.  Register by August 23rd. Canton's last al fresco community dinner of the season will be held on Tuesday, September 14, from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now through September 10 for this final Community Fundraiser Dinner of the season at Preservation Park, located on 500 N. Ridge Road.

Area residents are invited to gather around the table with your neighbors and enjoy delicious small plate eats from local chefs and food trucks, quench your thirst with several beer and wine options, indulge in the sounds of various performers, and support local artists at Canton’s new community dinner nights. Table registrations and payment is required in advance. Per Person Fee: $35R/ $46 NR (tickets include 4-5 small plates; beer and wine sold separately). Please note: Tables will again be configured for 8 individuals.  To be seated at the same table, participants must register together on the same transaction. Seating assignments and priority seating is determined by registration date on a first-come, first-serve basis.
 
This event will highlight a "Tailgate Theme,” featuring:

  • Mr. Pit Master BBQ - Beef Tips
  • Grace Savory and Sweet - Buffalo Chicken Salad
  • Pizza Pazza - Margarita wood fired pizza

11th Annual Brew, Brats & Bands at the Barn

This popular fall event returns to Preservation Park on Saturday, September 11 from 6-9 p.m. Ages 21 and over are encouraged to attend this special fundraiser that will benefit the Canton Historical Society.  This unique beer tasting event, scheduled to take place at on the grounds of the Cady-Boyer Barn, located at 500 N. Ridge Road, will include 7 beer tasting tickets to select from a wide variety of specialty craft beers, brats with fixings, and live entertainment. Tickets are $30 in advance through September 1 and $40 at the door.  Sponsors of this popular event include: Canton Leisure Services, Holiday Market, Liberty Street Brewing Company, Kennedy Nemier Insurance, Edward Jones, Canton Brew Works, Choice Insurance Agency, Alphagraphics, and Beefests.com. Become A Junior Park Pro

Canton Leisure Services invites area children to become an official Canton Junior Park Pro this summer just by touring 10 local parks, snapping a fun action photo, and sharing their experiences. Participants are encouraged to explore Canton’s neighborhood parks now through August 31, to earn a customized pin for each location visited. Becoming a Junior Park Pro is as easy as one, two, three!  1) Visit a Canton Park.  2) Take a picture. 3) Email the fun photo, along with the participant’s address to laura.mortier@canton-mi.org to earn a pin!  All ages are welcome to participate in this free park program. After you visit each park and submit your photo you will earn a customized park pin that will be mailed to you. Visit five parks and earn a Canton Lanyard to collect your pins on.
