Canton's Village Theater Re-Opening Update: More than a year after closing as a result the COVID-19 pandemic, The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is slowly reopening for activities, events, and some performances. Watch for monthly exhibits to be on display, as well as hands-on art workshops. As we begin to welcome guests back and transition to life in a COVID world, the health and safety of our guests, artists, staff and volunteers is our utmost priority. The Village Theater will continue to follow the recommendations of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for all COVID-19 safety protocols. This Month on Display at THE GALLERY@VT:July 2021 Exhibition features works by several Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild
Exhibition Dates: Now through July 28, 2021 Artist Reception: Wednesday, July 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (the public is welcome to attend this free reception).
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to exhibit a collaborative fiber exhibit, featuring a combination of work showing the dynamics and processes of over fifteen fiber artists. Works on display include a wide variety of fiber art, such as: Basketry, Beading, Bead Embroidery, Bead Weaving, Kumihimo, Crochet, Doll Making, Dyeing and Painting, Embroidery, Felting, Garment Design and Construction, Handmade Paper and Book Art, Knitting, Knotting, Quilting, Sewing, Spinning, Weaving, and Surface Design. These one-of-a-kind textile creations contain unique color, pattern, and textural details and can provide warmth and texture to enhance any environment as they take you on a textile journey that may be powerful or subtle, as well as lyrical and dramatic. Featured artists include: Jill Ault; Carol E. Fleischer; Anne Flora; Cindy Harris; Bonnie Kay; Anne Knott; Sandy Kunkle; Anne MacKinnon; Paul McKenney; Karen Koykka O'Neal; Mary Valerie Richter; Trish Ritchie; Liz Ritter; Barbara Schutzgruber; Agnes Soderbeck; Deb Spring; Karen Turckes; and Helen Welford. Originally founded in 1956 as a club for weavers, the Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild (AAFG) provides opportunities for fiber artists to meet and exchange ideas, and to learn about fiber art through lectures and workshops. Call for Artists to Exhibit During the 2022 Exhibition Season Submission Deadline: July 30, 2021
The Village Theater is now accepting proposals for solo/group exhibitions for our 2022 season. Local & regional artists are encouraged to apply & all mediums will be considered. To apply for a solo or group exhibition, artists must submit: a cover sheet with full name, address, phone number, email signature, and date of submission; CD/flash drive of no more than 10 high-quality JPEG digital images; list of representative images submitted; document artwork including the artist's name, title, medium, dimensions and completion date of the work; current resume/biography, artist statement, and availability. Artists’ submissions may be sent via email to Elli Fassois at: elli.fassois@canton-mi.org or delivered directly to The Village Theater. High-resolution digital images (no larger than 2MB each) may also be sent, in lieu of CD/flash drive, to Elli Fassois at the above email address. Please include all required information with images. Artists are ineligible to apply if they have had a Solo Exhibition at the Gallery@VT within the last five years. Participation in Group/Collaborative shows does not disqualify you from entering. The Village Theater at Cherry Hill’s exhibition committee, comprised of local artists and art educators, will determine the final 2022 exhibition season’s schedule.

Weaving Art WorkshopJuly 14, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Gallery@VT The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to announce the return of its in-person art workshops. During the “Weaving Art Workshop,” participants will spend a fun summer evening creating their own weaving project in The Village Theater’s beautiful Gallery@VT. Here they will enjoy a short-guided tour led by Village Theater art staff of the July 2021 exhibition, featuring works by The Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild. After getting inspired by these fiberarts work, participants will make their very own weaving project, experimenting with texture and different yarn types.
No experience necessary. This class is appropriate for ages 18 and over. All supplies/materials will be provided. Space is limited, so register today!
Workshop Fee: $20 per person

Cuba Watercolor WorkshopAugust 18, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Gallery@VT
This summer, area residents 18 and older are invited to get creative and attend this hands-on artwork workshop: “Cuba Watercolor Workshop.”
Participants will be able to travel to Cuba via photographs and then learn the painting technique for creating a watercolor white mariposa. Participants will be inspired by Jim Aho's and Jack Kenny's photographs from Cuba, which will be on display as The Village Theater’s August 2021 featured art gallery exhibit. Next, participants will learn how to paint a white mariposa with a Cuban background landscape utilizing watercolors.
No experience necessary. This class is appropriate for ages 18 and over. All supplies/materials will be provided. Space is limited, so register today!

Help Keep The Dream AliveThe Partnership for the Arts and Humanities will be holding a hybrid in person/virtual fundraiser “An Evening for the Arts” on July 29th at Canton’s Village Theater at Cherry Hill. All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support the Village Arts Factory. For those who would like to attend in person, the evening will include a strolling dinner, live entertainment and an exciting array of silent auction items. There are a limited number of tickets available for the in-person experience at $75 each. If you would like to also attend the after glow party at Marachino’s Pub, you would need to purchase the next level tickets at $100 each. For art supporters who are not yet ready to venture out, you can still get in on the fun online. Tickets for the virtual experience are $25 each and include a link to view the on-stage entertainment performed that night, and to place bids in the online auction.
