Canton Parks Smoking Ban Ordinance In Effect In 2020

Starting January 1, 2020, Canton Township has banned smoking in its parks, as well as on Canton Leisure Services facility properties with minor exemptions. This revision to the Canton Code of Ordinances’ Chapter 50 Parks and Recreation section prohibits smoking of tobacco and other substances, as well as the use of vaping products on properties and open spaces.  Smoking will only be permitted by adults at Pheasant Run Golf Club, and Fellows Creek Golf Club. These amendments to the Canton Parks Ordinance were put into effect in an effort to support public health and ensure more enjoyable experiences for all visitors to Canton’s parks and open spaces. Live Well Canton 2020 Kicks Off  
This Month

Area residents are encouraged to join Canon’s newest health and wellness initiative, Live Well Canton 2020, which will bring residents monthly wellness themes throughout the year aimed to introduce or reacquaint them with important community resources, facilities, and programs, all with a focus on good health. Annual Butterfly Ball Returns

Back by popular demand, Canton’s Valentine’s tradition returns on February 7 and 8 to the Summit on the Park, offering a unique experience and plenty of special memories! Dads and daughters can enjoy an evening of dancing, refreshments, a special butterfly souvenir, and the popular balloon drop that caps off the festivities.

Since one dance is already sold out, chose from the two remaining dances: February 7 at 6 p.m. or February 8 at 2 p.m.  Semi-formal or dressy-casual attire is recommended. Ticket sales end on February 1 and each participant is required to have a ticket for entry. Tickets are available online or at the Summit on the Park front desk for just $11 for residents and $14 for non-residents. These dances traditionally sell out, so be sure to purchase tickets early. Off-Season Markets Coming Soon to the Summit on the Park's Banquet Lobby

The first of three monthly Winter Markets will be held on Sunday, February 23 in the Summit on the Park Banquet lobby, located at 46000 Summit Parkway. Markets are also scheduled for March 22 and April 26 at the Summit; all with special winter market hours from 10 am - 2 pm. Several local vendors will be featured at the Market, including a variety of returning favorites.

Michigan goods available include: baked goods, artisan cheese and bread, frozen and dried pastas, hoop-house grown produce and more. Check here for the latest information, as well as www.facebook.com/cantonfarmersmarket.

"Alice In Wonderland" Comes To Canton
The international touring company, Tout a Trac, brings its wonderful production of "Alice In Wonderland" to The Village Theater at Cherry Hill on January 19, 2020, at 6 p.m. Tout a Trac's adaptation is faithful to the madness and humor of Lewis Carroll's original with one important twist: the story is no longer set in a garden, but in a library full of pop-up books.
Each new page opens another door and leads to the next adventure. 

Watch the action unfold as Alice hides in her father's study, which is crammed with books of all types and sizes, after refusing to do her homework. But one day, a curious looking rabbit, who just happens to be an eater of novels, appears, Not wanting the library to be turned into a rodent smorgasbord, Alice chases the rabbit and follows him into an amazing wonderland, where she encourters the Queen of Hearts, Humpty Dumpty, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and of course the Chesire Cat. Tickets are just $15. Canton Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 
Area residents are invited to attend a special event on January 20, 2020, at 7 p.m. to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Presented by the Commission for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, as well as members of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sub-Committee and Canton Township, “The Unauthorized Biography Series” is a musical project that celebrates the world’s greatest cultural icons through biographical hip hop songs. Each chapter of the series captures the legacy of a positive and influential iconic figure in a documentary-style music video. This engagement is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Crane Group. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or in advance online, by phone at 734/394-5300, or in person Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Village Theater, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton.For additional information, visit www.cantonvillagetheater.org. 

Village Theater Call For Artists 

The Gallery@VT would like to invite area artists to apply for a group or solo art exhibition for the 2021 season. The Village Theater is interested in featuring a diverse group of artists of all mediums. Submission will be juried by an exhibition committee comprised of local artists, arts professionals, and art educators. Please be advised that you are ineligible if you have had a Solo Exhibition at the Gallery@VT within the last 5 years. Submissions are due by April 8, 2020. Canton Club 55+ Special Events
Looking for a way to beat cabin fever? Area seniors are encouraged to attend two special events this February, when Club 55+ will host a Hawaiian Luau and Valentine’s Day celebrations at the Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway.  On Wednesday, February 5, shake off those winter blues and come dressed in your brightest Hawaiian gear from 1-2 p.m. Enjoy activities, snacks and more in the Maple Room.  Fees are just: $6 for Summit members; $7 for Canton residents, and $9 for non-residents.  Preregistration is required by January 30th.  Celebrate Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Map room.  Enjoy finger foods, desserts, special activities, followed by a romantic comedy movie at 3 p.m.  Fees are $9 for Summit members, $10 for Canton residents, and $13 for non-residents. Boys Spring Lacrosse Leagues Now Forming

Interested in Lacrosse?  No experience necessary.  Limited spots are still available for the 2020 Spring League in grades 3-4 and 7-8.  Registration fee includes: custom uniform, 10-14 league games, two tournaments, and referee fees. Learn how to play the fastest growing sport in the nation that provides great exercise and improved hand/eye coordination.  New and experienced players are welcome. Participants are required to provide their own equipment; however, a limited  supply of equipment is available for rent. Season runs March - May 2020.
