[ARCHIVED] Police investigating reports of two women being groped in parking lot

November 30, 2016, Canton, MI – On Monday, November 28, 2016, at approximately 7 p.m., and again at 9:30 p.m., Canton police officers responded to Lifetime Fitness on Haggerty Road for two separate reports of a female being approached from behind and groped by an unknown male suspect.

Both females reported walking through the parking lot on their cell phone when the assaults occurred.  In both instances, the male suspect is described as having a medium-complexion, approximately 5’8” tall, with an average to stocky build.  The suspect was wearing black pants and a black hoodie sweatshirt with the hood pulled up.  Both women immediately screamed and the assailant fled on foot through the parking lot to an unknown location.

The incidents remain under investigation.  Anyone with information that could possibly lead to the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Canton Police Department at 734/394-5400.

The Canton Police Department would like to take this time to encourage individuals to exercise proactive parking safety habits which include parking in well-lit areas and walking in groups when possible.  Always be aware of your surroundings, and keep your head up.  While shopping, avoid carrying too many packages, and have your keys out and ready to unlock the door to your vehicle or residence.
