[ARCHIVED] Canton’s Village Theater Announces Its 2023/2024 Season

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill announces its newest season, which is full of everything from an ultimate variety show to an improvised musical to the return of Irish tunes and dancing courtesy of Christmas with the Celts.

The season kicks into high gear in October when the always popular Edwards Twins return on October 11 with The Ultimate Variety Show, which features twin brothers Eddie and Anthony Edwards using state-of-the-art makeup to look and sound like the stars of yesterday and today. On October 14 the fan favorite Fleetwood Gold is back to take audiences on a musical journey through the best of Fleetwood Mac’s storied career from the early days to Stevie Nick’s solo career.

On November 3, Broadway’s Next Hit Musical comes to Canton. What is it exactly? You decide! Act 1 features the “Phony Awards” full of song titles and musicals suggested by the audience before the winning musical is improvised in its entirety in Act 2. Finally, a musical for and by the people. On November 9, legendary singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot is remembered and honored with Whispers of the North, the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute, followed by KAVAN, the world’s number one rock-and-roll Elvis paying tribute to the king of rock and roll with Four Shades of Elvis on November 10.

Canton Township will also pay tribute to area service men and women during its annual Salute to Service event on November 10, with a special afternoon presentation that will feature a military band.

Christmas with the Celts returns on December 9 with a special matinee performance. This immersive, family holiday show features both traditional Irish tunes along with contemporary classics with a Celtic flair, accompanied by Irish dancing and playful humor. Award-winning magician Aaron Radatz returns with his annual holiday magic show on December 21, and it wouldn’t be the holidays without the return of the Detroit Circus for their annual New Year’s Eve performance on December 31. It’s a high-flying Canton tradition that the whole family will enjoy.

Finally, on April 5, Brass Transit pays tribute to the music of Chicago, with note-for-note renditions of their classic hits with the precision of some of the top studio musicians in the world.

The Village Theater Gallery at Cherry Hill features a monthly rotation of local and regional artists, including the 29th Annual Canton Fine Arts Exhibition in October with a reception on October 12

Traditional community and cultural events include the 4th Annual Cherry Hill Village Monster Mash on October 13 (Friday The Thirteenth). This twenty-one and over Halloween party will feature a cash bar, costume contest, and trivia to the sounds of Atomic Radio covering top 40 and spooky classics. In the new year, we celebrate Chinese history during the annual Chinese Festival on February 24 with performances by talented members of the greater Detroit area Chinese community.

Resident Theater Group Spotlight Players returns with a family-friendly season including the musicals, The Addams Family September 15 – 24, SpongeBob the Musical November 30 – December 3, and Jersey Boys April 19 – 28. Spotlight Studio will present While the Lights Were Out October 26 – 29 and Nana Does Vegas May 16 – 19. Spotlight Junior Players will feature young performers in The Grunch, a New Children’s Musical November 16 – 19, and Frozen, JR. March 7 – 10.
