March 5, 2015, Canton, MI – Last Sunday, eight Canton firefighters participated in the Fight for Air Climb charity event, raising money for the American Lung Association.
Firefighters climbed 70 flights of stairs at the Detroit Renaissance Center, wearing full turnout gear which weights approximately 70 pounds. This is the first time Canton has entered a team in the Firefighter Challenge portion of the event, raising $2,415 for the American Lung Association.
Canton team members average completion time was 24 minutes, with Firefighter Maureen Stoecklein recording a time of 13.49 minutes. This remarkable time earned her 33rd place overall, and first place among female firefighters.
Team members are already looking forward to participating next year, improving both their personal times and fundraising amounts.
