Canton’s Village Theater To Exhibit Works by Artist Troy Hubbs

2019 Indian Yellow Troy Hubbs

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to exhibit the works of painter Troy Hubbs now through July 29, 2019. A special artist’s reception and meet & greet will be held on Wednesday, July 10, from 7-9 p.m. at The Village Theater, that is free and open to the public.

Featured artist Troy Hubbs’ works are often inspired by the Old Master Painters. In the past few years after receiving a commission to create some works, Hubbs embarked on a journey in creating more abstract works that were not image-based and utilized unique color palettes.

“For as long as I can remember, I have been visually studying life and the world around me,” stated Troy Hubbs. “Looking for a template. Something to grasp and hold onto. Something to make sense of the world and my place in it. Painting has given me that template. Taking what is outside inward and giving it back through my eyes, gives me a place and peace of mind.”

After breaking away from representational art for a while, Hubbs has explored abstracts with influences from expressionist painters Mark Rothko and Willem De Kooning. Hubbs has had much success utilizing combinations of palette knife and brush work, painted wet on wet, with Alla Prima style in oils.

Hubbs comes from an illustration background, primarily inking work for several companies including: Top Cow Productions, McFarlane Productions, WildStorm Productions, Image Comics, Marvel Comics, and Warner Brother’s Entertainment. Titles include: Spawn, Wildcats, Gen-13, Sigma, Alpha Flight, Nightfall: The Black Chronicles, Generation X, and X-Men. In addition, he has worked on a painted graphic novel with writer Steve Seagle. Hubbs has studied at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, as well as the Brooks College of Design and the Pasadena Art Center, both in California. Hubbs has also exhibited in the SOHO Gallery in Studio City California.
