Reopening Safely

The safety of our members and staff remains of the utmost importance to us. In alignment with direction from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), a number of new safety protocols and conditions have been implemented. As we navigate through the reopening, there will be some new things to expect during each phase. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together.

As part of our reopening, we have several safety measures that are in place for our patrons and staff: 

  • If you are feeling unwell or are experiencing possible cold or flu-like symptoms, we ask that you please stay home and do not visit our facility.
  • All visitors and staff entering the recreation center are required to wear a mask at all times. 
  • Entry into the facility will only be allowed through the Main Entrance.
  • All visitors must check-in and check-out at the Summit front desk. Members are encouraged to use the Summit Mobile App to scan in and out at each visit.
  • All members are required to wipe down equipment regularly before and after each use.   Sanitation stations will be provided in several areas throughout the facility. 
  • Fitness equipment stations will have short-term closures for cleaning and disinfecting throughout the day.  
  • Members must respect six feet of distance between other guests outside their party. 
  • Fitness Locker rooms will be available for changing or showering.
  • Patrons are asked to minimize the number of belongings that they bring into the facility; however, a limited number of lockers, including individual cell phone storage lockers will be available for use to hold wallets, keys, and phones. 
  • No water fountains will be available; however, a water bottle refill station will remain open. Guests are encouraged to bring water bottles. 
  • Signs and posters are posted throughout the center to frequently remind members to take steps to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

New Business Hours:

The Summit on the Park's modified business are: 

  • Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Areas that will remain closed until it is deemed safe to reopen, include: Club 55+ Senior Center; Kids’ Corner childcare center; sauna and steam room; 

Safety

The Summit places the highest priority on the safety of our guests. As such, we will be following all state requirements, as well as additional safety protocols.  Here is how this will affect our members: 

  • MASKS: Guests must wear a mask at all times except while swimming. 
  • SOCIAL DISTANCING: Guests must respect six feet of distance between other guests outside their party. All equipment has been spaced out to ensure this is possible.
  • CLEANING: After hours' cleaning includes scheduled disinfecting of shared surfaces including doors, counters, bathrooms, etc... In addition, members are asked to clean equipment that they have utilized before and after use.

Capacity

State regulations allow us to open our fitness and gymnasium areas to 25% capacity. As of November 18, 2020, all indoor fitness classes are currently suspended due to restrictions set by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services.

Membership Status

All Summit on the Park memberships, which have been frozen since the facility’s closure due to the global pandemic, will be re-activated and extended accordingly once a member FIRST returns to the Summit. Please allow additional time for your first returning visit. Memberships will remain frozen for those members who do not feel comfortable returning to our facility at this time.

REOPENING FAQS

  • Will the entire Summit be open?
    Members will have access to designated areas. Entry into the facility will only be allowed through the Main Entrance. All visitors must check-in at the Summit front desk, where they will be screen through a series of questions, as well as checked out.
    Members will have access to:
    - Fitness and Aerobic Centers, as well as the Gymnasium, which contains fitness equipment
    - Walking Track (closed middle lane to allow for walking with social distancing); no running allowed
    - Stretching Area, located in the gymnasium
    - All fitness equipment and machines have been safely spaced with 12 feet between them.
    - Gymnasium will be available by reservation only. Reservations can be booked online seven days in advance and are limited to one person, or one family unit (must live in same household) per reservation.
    - Racquetball Court will be available by reservation only. One person or one family unit (must live in same household) per reservation. Reservations can be booked online two days in advance and are limited to 2 people per reservation.

  • Why is the Aquatic Center closed?
    The Aquatic Center. including Aquatic Locker Room, Steam Room, and Sauna, will remain closed for the foreseeable future for significant capital improvement projects including replacement of the copper roof and major tile installation.

  • Who will be able to utilize the Summit?
    Members and guests (by purchasing a daily visit pass) will be permitted access to the Summit and will be required to check-in for any activity/program offered to adhere to maximum occupancy guidelines. No guests will be allowed to loiter in the facility.

  • Will I be able to bring my child to the Summit while I participate in a fitness class?
    Members will not be allowed to bring any additional guests. Anyone in attendance must be a registered participant in the class. Kids' Corner Child Care is currently closed.

  • What will I not have access to at the Summit?
    Specific areas of the facility will be unavailable until further notice, include:
    - Aquatic Center, including the sauna, steam room, and all pools are currently closed for renovations.
    - Kids’ Corner Child Care Center
    - Summit Room Rentals & Classrooms
    - Banquet Center
    - Water Fountains

  • What are your temporary new business hours?
    Facility hours have been reduced. The Summit will be open for the foreseeable future during the following hours:
    - Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    - Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
     
  • Will I be required to wear a face mask?
    All patrons and staff will be REQUIRED to wear a face mask AT ALL TIMES (including while exercising), which is required by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS). In addition, all patrons must follow the safety guidelines posted by the entrance stating that you will abide by all policies and procedures. Failure to follow policies will result in being asked to leave the premises. Patrons must:
    - Always maintain 6 feet of social distance
    - Wash hands regularly
    - Cover face and nose with proper masks or personal protective equipment (PPE)
    - Stay home when sick

  • What are the cleaning procedures for fitness equipment?
    Members are required to clean All workout equipment before and after each use. Summit staff has increased cleaning protocols for equipment and high touch surfaces that currently exceed CDC standards.

  • What additional safety protocols are currently in place?
    Staff and guests will be required to adhere to social distancing (at least 6 feet apart) guidelines. Areas and spaces within the Summit have been reconfigured to enable social distancing. Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed and are available to all guests. Staff will be required to sign in each guest, which will allow monitoring of capacity levels. Environmental controls have been implemented including the installation of plexiglass barriers and the increased circulation of outside air.

  • How are staff members being screened?
    Staff members complete a daily health screening, including temperature check upon entry into the facility.

  • Do I have to reserve a workout time?
    Members will not have to register in advance. State of Michigan regulations have allowed the Summit to reopen with areas limited to 25% of total occupancy. Members will be allowed to drop-in during business hours and will not need to register in advance.

  • How long will I be able to workout in the facility? 
    At the current time, Summit members will not be limited to a specific length of workout time. Please note that your workout duration should be adjusted to accommodate time before and after to disinfect your equipment. 

  • What do I need to bring with me?  
    Please bring your own workout towel, yoga/stretching mat, water bottle, etc..., during this reopening period. Face coverings will be required for members while inside our facility.

  • Will the locker rooms be available?
    Locker rooms will be available for changing or showering. However, patrons are still encouraged to wear your workout gear to the Summit, as well as to minimize the number of belongings they bring into the facility. Remember to bring your own yoga mat, towel, water bottle, etc… A limited number of individual lockers, including cell phone storage lockers will be available for use to hold wallets, keys, and phones.
     
  • Will there be capacities in different areas?
    Per Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) Order reduced capacities have been established in certain areas of the facility.  If areas do reach capacity, Summit staff may have to temporarily deny access to a space until we fall below capacity again. 
     
  • What types of programming will be available?
    Summit and Recreation staff are working diligently to create a comprehensive programming lineup for the fall and winter 2020. Watch for a combination of in-person outdoor and virtual program offerings rolled out online.
